The Principle
These guitars are different from the semi-acoustic guitars that are conceptually electric guitars with the sound chambers within the body. The acoustic electric guitars are fitted with piezoelectric pickups and require a preamplifier incorporated into the body of the guitar for amplifying the signal before it runs through the main amplifier. These preamps of the guitar may come with tone controls of different kinds, but generally equalizers with up to bands of six frequencies are sed and referred to it as a ‘plug-in acoustic guitar because of their function ability to simply ‘plug in’ to a speaker system without using microphones.
The preamps are generally used in folk and classical music due to the reason that they possess the acoustic guitar sound with more volume when plugged into a speaker system. The preamps are commonly found in worship music apart from the traditional Christian music. Popular artists like Chris Tomlin, Tim Hughes and Matt Baker use these guitars with bands like Hilsong and RPM.
History
The acoustic electric guitar were clearly needed due to the big band era like jazz orchestras in the 1930 and 1940 with larger brass sections. Earlier the electric guitars used in jazz had hollow archtop bodies to which electromagnetic transducers were attached.
Early Years – These guitars were designed by an assortment of luthiers, guitar makers and instrument manufacturers. Les Paul, a guitar innovator experimented with microphones with guitars. Some of the acoustic electric guitars adapted hollow bodied instruments with tungsten pickups. This kind of guitar was first manufactured in 1932 by ‘Electro String Instrument Corporation’ under the supervision of Adolph Rickenbacher and George Beauchamp. Harry Watson was the man who designed this guitar.
Construction –
The electric acoustic guitars are fitted with pickups that work as an alternative to use a separate microphone. The pickups may be fitted with a ‘piezo-electric’ kup under its bridge that is joined to the bridge mounting plate. Or it can be used with a low mass microphone with a condenser Mic within the body of the
guitar. It converts the vibrations in into electronic signals in the body or even combinations of pickups with an integral mixer/graphic equalizer. The signals are not produced directly by the pickups from the vibration of the strings, but from the vibration of top of the guitar. Best of these guitars are manufactured by brands like Fender and Yamaha. They make from 4 to 12 strings guitars.

Guys, I just wanted to say that I got my acoustic electric guitar in good condition. And I am happy with the great sound it produces. Will buy one more piece for my brother as his birthday gift.

The sound of acoustic electric guitars is really different from the semi-acoustic guitars. I have been using these guitars since many years and I really like their natural sound. My younger brother also likes these guitars. But, this time I wanted to buy one to gift it to my cousin sister. I browsed all their collection and then selected one stylish acoustic electric guitar from my favorite brand ‘Gibson’. The instrument is just perfect and sounds great. My sister has thanked me a lot of times since then.
