Before the take over, Epiphone was the main rival of Gibson’s main rival in the arch top market. Epiphone’s arch tops like the Emperor, Broadway, Deluxe and Triumph rivaled those of Gibson. Apart from guitars, Epiphone was also engaged in making banjos, basses and other stringed instruments. However, its weakness in the aftermath of WW II allowed Gibson to take over it.?
