Dean Guitars was established in Chicago, USA in 1973 by ‘Dean Zelinsky’. But, currently this company is owned by ‘Armadillo Enterprises’ and it is based in Tampa, Florida, USA. Actually, after a period of ten years, Dean Zelinshky decided to no longer manufacture guitars and he sold the company to Oscar Medeiros. Under the ownership of Medeiros, the Dean brand sold instruments till the mid 90s. Then, in the mid 1990’s, the Company again went into the hands of a new owner, ‘Armadillo Enterprises’.

Then new owner was credited with resurrecting a ‘left-for-trash’ company in 1997. Wit ha new range of electric guitars, Dean witnessed a new era of success.

Armadillo Enterprises also owns Luna Guitars and Ddrum and both these companies have large artist rosters like Carmine Appice and Vinnie Paul.

Cort Guitars is a South Korea based guitar manufacturer. Cort is one of the largest guitar manufacturers in the world. Cort also produces instruments for other companies.

The story goes this goes way…..In the 1960’s, Jack Westheimer set up connections with Japanese guitar manufacturers with the intention of importing there guitars to America.

Then, in 1973, Jack Westheimer founded the ‘Yoo-Ah’ company (pronounced as ‘You-and-I’) with Yung H. Park as a partner in South Korea. Now, the Yoo-Ah company would be known as ‘Cor-Tek’ named after Jack Westheimer's own brand ‘Cortez’. Eventually, Yung H. Park acquired the Cor-Tek company. The Cor-Tek Company makes ‘Cort’ branded guitars and also provides OEM manufacturing for different brands.

Jack Westheimer is associated with Teisco, Pearl, Cortez, Silvertone, Cort, Kingston and many others.

Cort Guitars does not have any range that can be called ‘Signature’ instruments like Fender ‘Stratocaster’ or Gibson ‘Les Paul’. Instead, this company manufactures a vast guitar line to cater to different guitarists and music genres. Cort makes a wide variety of electric, acoustic and bass guitars. Actually, BC Rich began prior to 1969, but it turned to electric instruments at that time when customers requested more due to the growing popularity.

In 1971, the first original design ‘Seagull’ was launched, by BC Rich. This guitar gave a subtle indication about the future direction of the Company. This single-cutaway design instrument was quite successful.

There is a big difference between the right handed and left handed guitars for a southpaw (a left handed person). There is a big misconception about the left-handed guitars as many people believe that just turning any guitar around is the whole thin, but no, it is not like this….there is something more.

The main difference between a right handed and left handed guitar cannot be solved by a mere flip. A left handed person can use a right hand acoustic guitar, but it also means some big adjustments. It demands reversing the pick guard and the string order. And, also you need a different nut for the strings to fit through. When the job is done, you will find a peculiar look with the guitar, though it is still playable.

The electric guitars come with controls and shifters that needed to be adjusted at the last moment. And modifying the shifts and knobs of a standard right handed electric guitar to convert it into an electric guitar left handed requires time and money. However, with acoustic guitar left handed and bass guitar left handed, the efforts are not that much.

According to some experts, the left handlers can learn to play the guitar with their non dominant hand. But, this is more frustrating as unless one is truly ambidextrous, it is not worth the efforts.

The left handed guitars are harder to find as only fewer are produced. And as these guitars are made in less quantity, the selling price will be automatically higher from the manufacturer to make profit.

The acoustic bass guitar has a hollow and the majority is fretted, but still a few are fretless instead. The semi-fretted versions are also in production.
