Ovation is an American guitar manufacturer. The owner company of Ovation Guitars is ‘Kaman Music Corporation’ and it is located at New Hartford, Connecticut, USA. Primarily, this company produces acoustic guitars.

The guitars made by ovation are quite distinct as they have the composite synthetic bowl, instead the traditional wooden back and sides found in other acoustic guitars.

Ovation Guitars was founded in the year of 1966, when ‘Charlie Kaman’ revolutionized the acoustic guitar industry with his innovative designs. Ovation introduced round back designs. And, just after fours years of the launching, the Ovation instruments reached the height of popularity in 1980. Many acoustic guitarists got attracted towards the Ovation guitars because of their synthetic bowl, onboard equalization, preamps, and piezo pickups. After the 1980s, these guitars have still remained popular, but they are not seen much on the stage.

The founder of this company, Charles Kaman was an amateur guitarist with a degree in aeronautical engineering. Kaman brought in his aeronautical experience in his guitar business and it worked well. His blade experience in helicopters helped him with a better vibration understanding in the world of guitars.

1. Ovation 1431 Ultra-GP – You will find this guitar like a Gibson Les Paul as most of its features are the same, but what makes it distinct is its body shape that is really comfortable for the player, it is a double cutaway body design. This guitar has Dual hum-buckers, two volume and tone knobs with a 3 position pickup switch. There are 22 frets and a Grover tuner.
It has a beautiful neck/body joint that has the neck meeting the body with a curve, not sticking. It contours into the body and this is really good for the upper fret accessing for the player. And, if you talk of sound, the player gets complete Les Paul tones with huge sustain as it has a heavy and thick body.

2. Ovation VXT – This is a new guitar in the house of Ovation. This instrument is neither an acoustic nor an electric guitar, it belongs to the ‘Hybrid’ category, but you will find it look like an electric guitar that can produce acoustic tones very easily. VXT means ‘Variable Cross Tone’, its ability to vary the tones. This 6 strings guitar has two Duncan 59 hum-bucker pickups, a solid spruce top, a rosewood fingerboard and chrome tuners.
The neck and body are made of Mahogany. The sound and look are appreciable.

3. Ovation CC44 – This is a 6 string acoustic-electric guitar that has a Center sound-hole that produces a melodious acoustic sound. It has a rosewood fingerboard, OP4BT Preamp and great tonal flexibility. It has a mid-depth cutaway body design with laminated spruce top, walnut Bridge, abalone dot inlays and white bound rosewood fingerboard. The scale length is 25 ¼” and the Nut width is 1 11/16”. The neck is great for acoustic play with a fast action. It is a very light and comfortable guitar; you can play it either standing or sitting. It has separate piezo pickups for all strings and there is a built-in tuner in the electronics that is a great feature. As of sound, you would need to plug it in to a get a better warm and bright sound.

4. Ovation Ultra 2071 – This ovation guitar has 20 frets on a rosewood fret-board. The neck is made of mahogany with a matte finish and the fret-board is made of rosewood. The top is made of solid Sitka spruce, the sound hole has wide rosette around it and the rosette serves as a pick guard. It has a single piezo pickup, a 3-band EQ and a built-in tuner. This guitar has a gorgeous Sunburst finish. The bridge is made of Walnut and it has chrome tuners. It sounds fantastic with a crisp high end and clear, bright mid-range rings.

5. Ovation 2178 Ultra – This is a single cutaway acoustic electric guitar that has 6 strings. It features a AA Solid Sitka Spruce top with an intense contour body that has a scalloped LX bracing. The neck is of ‘V’ shape with a walnut Bridge and a 5-piece exotic hardwood sound-hole rosette. This guitar has an OP-Pro preamp system that has been made specifically for the Patented Pickup of Ovation. It has a powerful 3-band EQ with a built-in tuner. It has Rosewood fret-board and Pearl Dots inlays with a Nut width of 1 11/16 inches. It sounds great and favors the highs with a superb balance. It has super low action with no buzz.
