Washburn Guitars is a USA based guitar manufacturer that was established in 1883 in Chicago, Illinois. The parent company is U.S. Music Corporation.
In 1992, this company got involved in a musical movement in Chicago, the “Delta Blues” movement that resulted of the African American people of that area. The people of that area introduced emotional and raw music that changed the Blues and Rock music genres forever. This new music movement increased the sales of Washburn guitars at that time.
Today, Washburn produces all types of guitars – electric, acoustic and basses with banjos, amps and mandolins. Washburn is the first musical instrument company that endorsed professional guitarists for their instruments.
The Washburn Company introduced the Voice Contour Control system, a special coil structure that delivers a smooth blend between a single coil sound and a hum-bucker sound with no hum in between. You can get this blend by just turning a knob. Washburn also makes accessories like cases, clothing, pick-ups, and tuners etc-etc. Washburn guitars are very popular in the extreme metal and hardcore punk scenes.
